Steurer Named GLVC Freshman of the Year, Epp Earns Honorable Mention

Nick Steurer has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Freshman of the Year, as well as earned a spot on the All-GLVC Second Team in the designated hitter position. Isaac Epp was dubbed an honorable mention selection for the All-GLVC Second Team and the GLVC James R. Spalding Sportsmanship honoree.

Steurer, a freshman second baseman, becomes just the second Truman player to win the GLVC Freshman of the Year award, joining Kent Frantz, who earned the honor in 2015. Steurer hit .427 across 44 games, with 70 hits, 20 doubles, four triples, four home runs and 32 RBI. He also swiped 27 bases on 31 attempts. His 20 doubles also set a new Truman single-season record, adding another marker to one of the strongest offensive freshman seasons in recent program history. In conference-only play, Steurer ranked third in doubles, fourth in stolen bases and fifth in batting average among GLVC hitters.

Epp, a senior pitcher, made 12 starts and logged 59.2 innings while recording a 2-4 record and 4.83 ERA. He struck out 51 batters on the year. In addition to the All-GLVC Second Team, Epp also earned recognition off the field as the program's Spalding Sportsmanship honoree, an award given to student-athletes who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship, ethical behavior and good citizenship.
