Truman Places 18 On All-GLVC Football Team

Truman football had 18 players selected for the All-Great Lakes Valley Conference Football Team, as well as Co-Coach of the year honors for Greg Nesbitt, head coach, and the league’s Sportsmanship Award that was announced by the conference office, Nov. 22.
 
The Bulldogs finished the regular season 8-2 and 5-1 in the GLVC with Nesbitt splitting the award with Chris Keeves from Indianapolis.
 
Truman had a league-best 13 players selected for first-team honors. They were: unanimous choices Justin Watson (OL) and Robert Grecto (DL) along with Dane Eggert (OL), Shamar Griffith (RB); Matt Hall (TE); Collin Sutton (UT); Ben Miller (DL); Isaiah Estes (LB); Ben Thomas (DB); Ben Watson (DB); Jake Closser (UT); Grant Ross (K); and Casey Voichahoske (LS).
 
Second-team selections were: Ulysses Ross (LB); Peyton Carr (DB); and Taylor Cornish (P); with honorable mentions to Ben Thomas (ST) and Nolan Hair (QB).
 
For five players, it was their third time receiving the award with two, Greco and Watson, earning first-team honors the past three seasons. Eggert moved up from the second team to first team for the first time, as did Estes.
 
Six players received their second all-league award, Hall, Thomas, Hair, Miller, Ross and Watson. Watson was selected as the team’s James R. Spalding Sportsmanship honoree.
 
The Truman defense was number one in the GLVC in points allowed at 17.8 per game and yards allowed at 299.2 per outing. The special teams were number one in kickoffs with a 41.7 net average, number one in field goal percentage at 81% and number one in net punting at 36.0.
 
The Bulldogs were voted the Sportsmanship Award winners for the sixth time since the awards inception in 2015. Truman led the GLVC and was in the top 10 in Division II in penalties, flags against per game, penalty yards and yards against per game.
