Oxandale was voted the winner by Career Center staff and the deans of different schools. She spent eight weeks in Kenya, Africa, where she worked as a student nurse and teacher. She spent her mornings helping with tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS, prenatal, maternal and wound care in a local clinic. In the afternoons, she worked as a fifth grade science and math teacher at a school of 243 students. She lived with a local Kenyan family and commuted to work everyday.

Courtney found her internship through an online organization, “A Broader View Volunteers.”
