Upgraded Dial-up System
Truman's dial-up system is provided for faculty and staff to allow remote access to local Truman network resources and to the Internet. In January, a new dial-up system will be debuting. Since this is a completely new system, end users will need to create new connection icons (with different settings) to access this service. This service will utilize a brand new phone number and the username and password will be different from what users have had in the past. The good news is that this will no longer be a separate password, but it will actually be the username and password that faculty/staff use to access the TRUMAN domain (which is the same account also used for email and TruView).
Even though configuration changes will be required, the new dial-up system will be easier to setup and will no longer require you to use a "terminal window" when connecting. No more typing "ppp default"! Also, this new system will provide faster access to the Internet than the old system. The new system uses digital lines to allow for speeds of up to 56Kbps which is the maximum speed at which dial-up can currently run.
Dial-up users will receive more information from ITS in January once the system is fully available. We will provide a time period during which both services (the old and the new) are available. After a transition period, the older system will be taken off-line. If you want to get a sneak peak at the configuration you'll need for accessing the new service, documentation on using the new dial-up system from Windows, Mac and Linux systems is available from the ITS web documentation page at the following link: http://its.truman.edu/documentation/remote_computing/new/index.stm
