Oxandale Earns GLVC Track Athlete of the Week Award
Sophie Oxandale has been selected as the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Track Athlete of the Week.
Oxandale was a member of a record-setting relay team and nearly set an individual school record the weekend of Feb. 10. She ran 800 meters as the third leg of the distance medley relay with Addie Mathis, Alayna Pipkin and Lexi Henrikson that shattered a 2005 school record by more than 16 seconds, Feb. 10. The team ran 12:00.18 that earned an NCAA provisional mark.
At the Gorilla Classic in Pittsburg, Kansas, Oxandale came close to breaking the 800-meter school record when she ran a personal best 2:15.15, Feb. 11. That time moved her up to third on the GLVC Indoor Performance list in the 800 and was four-tenths of a second from the 2004 school record held by Candice Hoskins.
