“Swiss Cheese Method” Still Effective Against COVID

In their weekly meeting Faculty Senate COVID-19 Working Group committee members Scott Alberts, Christine Harker and Nancy Daley-Moore discussed the number of active cases on campus, as well as the omicron variant. While there is still a lot to learn about omicron, normal prevention measures – hand washing, social distancing, wearing a mask and getting vaccinated – are all effective mitigation strategies. The “Swiss cheese method” of incorporating multiple layers of protection simultaneously remains the best overall approach. The committee members also encouraged students to consider getting tested for COVID-19 before returning home for winter break to ensure they do not expose family members.
