Register by Oct. 7 to Vote in Upcoming Election

Student Government and the Office of Citizenship and Conduct encourage students to register to vote so they can participate in the upcoming November election.

Truman students have the opportunity to actively participate in local, state and federal elections. Historically, college-age Americans vote at the lowest rates. Students may have reasons they are hesitant to vote, including not feeling well versed on candidate and issues. To help students feel more informed when voting, Student Government will host various events to help educate votors on the upcoming ballot.

The most convenient way for students to participate in elections is to vote locally in Kirksville. Students from Missouri can list their Kirksville address to vote locally, whether they are completing a new registration or updating an existing registration. Students living on campus can vote in the Student Union Building on election day, while students living off campus will be contacted by mail to learn where their voting location is. Alternatively, students can register with their home communities and vote by mail by requesting an absentee ballot from their home election authority.

The last day to register to vote in Missouri for the upcoming election is Oct. 7. Missouri citizens can quickly register to vote or update their registration online via the Secretary of State website. Out-of-state students should check with election officials in their home state for more information about registering to vote.
