Men’s Basketball Receives Conference Honors Following Regular Season

Four Truman men’s basketball players and head coach Jeff Horner received honors from the Great Lakes Valley Conference following the 2023-24 regular season.

Freshman guard Kobi Williams was named Freshman of the Year and all-freshman. Sophomore guard Xavier Hall was named second-team All-GLVC and all-defensive. Junior guard Trey Shearer was named second-team All-GLVC. Sophomore guard Casen Lawrence was Truman’s selection for the James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Award.

Williams averaged 12.2 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game. In conference games, He led all freshman with 12.3 points per game and 246 total points. He had a season-high 29 points at Quincy, Jan. 11.

Hall excelled all around this year placing second in assists in the GLVC with 4.8 and third in scoring for Truman with 11.7. He was tops in assist/turner ratio in the conference at 2.6. Hall had a career-high 27 points versus Maryville, Feb. 15.

Shearer had his best season as a Bulldog in 2023-24, scoring 13.0 points per game which was 5.2 more than last season’s average. His 13 points were good for 19th in the GLVC and best on the team. Shearer’s best game was against Upper Iowa where he dropped 28, Dec. 2. He had a career-high seven rebounds and nine assists against McKendree, Feb. 1.

Horner won the GLVC Coach of the Year Award after posting a record of 15-13 overall and 12-8 in conference play. The Bulldogs were picked to finish last in the GLVC preseason poll, and placed fourth at the conclusion of the regular season. This is Horner’s second Coach of the Year honor, last winning in 2021.
