School of Arts and Letters Dean Selected
Dr. Stephen Parsons has accepted the position of dean of the School of Arts and Letters at Truman.
Currently, Parsons serves as the director of the Illinois State University School of Music. He brings more than 25 years of significant academic and administrative experience to the position, including an extensive background in strategic planning, curriculum revision/development and establishing community partnerships.
“I am honored to be invited to serve as the next dean of the School of Arts and Letters,” Parsons said. “Truman is a special place, and I look forward to working with the faculty, staff and students of SAL to plan and realize an exciting and rewarding future.”
Parsons earned his Doctor of Musical Arts and Master of Music from the University of Kansas, along with a Bachelor of Music Education from Oral Roberts University.
“Dr. Parsons embraces an inclusive leadership style and student-centered philosophy, and I am excited and thankful that he will be joining the Truman community and providing leadership to the School of Arts and Letters and the University as we move forward,” said Janet Gooch, executive vice president for academic affairs and provost.
Parsons will begin his duties July 13, 2020.
