A New Place to Call Home

When Truman students returned this fall, campus seemed a little busier than usual. In addition to the hustle and bustle of nearly 6,000 students going to and from classes, Truman has a major construction project in process and another on the way. Magruder Hall, home of the science division, is currently in the final stage of construction and will be completed by fall 2005. The biggest building project of all, however, has not yet begun.

In January 2005, Truman is scheduled to break ground on a new, state-of-the-art residence hall that will be completed for the fall 2006 semester.

According to John Mounsey, area coordinator for Residence Life, almost all of the details have been finalized for the residence hall that will house approximately 416 students with suite style living.

With the popularity of campus housing growing each year, the addition of a new residence hall is sure to only increase the amount of students choosing to stay on campus following their first year. According to Kevin Bollinger, area coordinator for Residence Life, 1,301 upperclassmen lived on campus during the fall 2004 semester.

Many students like sophomore Ross Coleman plan to live on campus all four years. “I want to continue living on campus because I like being connected with the other students in my residence hall,” Coleman said.

Floor plans and a rendering of the new residence hall have been on display in the Student Union Building for current students to view. Students have also been able to vote for their favorite carpet for the new building. To view plans online visit: http://reslife.truman.edu/facilities/index.html.
