Morris Earns First GLVC Outdoor Track & Field Award
Junior Jacob Morris was named the first Great Lakes Valley Conference Outdoor Track & Field Athlete of the week for the 2023 season after posting a school record 58.37 meter mark in the discus event at the Miner Invitational in Rolla, Missouri, March 25.
Morris’ mark ranks 24th on the all-time Division II list for the discus throw and third all-time on the GLVC performance list. His mark broke his own school record set last season, and is currently atop the Division II performance list and is the second-best throw in DII over the past two years. At the tournament, Morris also placed second in the hammer, third in the shot and sixth in the javelin.
Morris also broke his third school record as he toppled the 29-year men's hammer throw mark at the Southwest Baptist Invite in Bolivar, March 31. He cleared 60.01 meters in the event and surpassed the 1994 record that was held by Geoff Heskett at 57.36.
