Municipal Election Registration Deadline March 11

Voters must register by March 11 to vote in the upcoming municipal election, April 7.
In 1971, passage of the 26th Amendment lowered the national minimum age for voting in state and federal elections to 18. This makes it possible for most traditionally aged college students to vote. Citizens 18-24 years old continue, however, to be the least likely group of citizens to vote in elections. Only 42% of those aged 18-24 in Missouri voted in November 2024, compared with 76% of those aged 45-64, according to Census Bureau data.
Registering to vote is simple and can be done through the Missouri Secretary of State’s Office online at sos.mo.gov/elections/govotemissouri/register. Voter registration must be completed by March 11 to vote in the upcoming April 7 election.
Students have three options for voting: they can register with their home address to vote back home in-person on election day; they can register with their home address and work with their local election authority in advance to request an absentee ballot; or they can register with their Kirksville address and vote in person in Kirksville.
If voters have moved since the last election, or would like to update which community they vote in, they should use the same registration link with the Secretary of State’s Office to update their voter information. Students registered to vote with their residence hall address can vote in the Student Union Building on election day, April 7. Students registered with their off-campus address in Kirksville are assigned polling places in the Kirksville community.
Students who are not Missouri residents should check with their state’s election authority on how to register to vote in their home state.
