Closser Earns GLVC Special Teams Player of the Week Award
Truman returner Jake Closser has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Football Special Teams Player of The Week.
Closser returned a punt 80 yards for a touchdown in Truman’s 31-17 win against Wayne State, Sept. 28. It was the first punt return, that wasn’t blocked, taken for a touchdown since Spencer Newell raced 71 yards in a September 2019 game against Valparaiso Indiana. It was also the second-longest punt return in school history; four yards shy of Anthony Gerke’s 84-yard touchdown against Lincoln University in 1989.
This was Closser’s fifth career touchdown and first as a punt returner. His previous four scores have all come on interception returns.
