Chana Edwards, assistant professor of communication disorders; Sheila Garlock, clinical supervisor in communication disorders; and Melissa Passe, clinical director of the Speech and Hearing Clinic; attended MSHA Legislative Day on Feb. 20 in Jefferson City, Mo. The following communication disorders graduate students from Truman participated in the MSHA Legislative Day activities: Jennifer Aubuchon, Jamie Barbarick, Julie Bender, Melissa Bukowski, Amy Campfield, Amy Kreimer, Sara Logan, Jaime Lummis, Whitney Morton, Lauren Mueller, Amy Rapp, Christa Schmich, Megan Sherrill, Janelle Stegen and Natalie Thompson.
Emily Doucette (’07) presented her research paper “Assessment of the Effectiveness of a Model Program of Piperazine Distribution on Childhood Malnutrition in Haiti” at the recent meeting of the Annual Midwestern Conference of Parasitologists held June 14-16 at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. Her paper was judged as the best undergraduate presentation at the conference and was awarded the Raymond Cable Award. The award, named for noted parasitologist Raymond Cable, includes a $100 cash grant and $150 in travel funds to present her paper at other conferences. Doucette’s research project was conducted under the guidance of Lin Twining, professor of biology, and Stan Shaffer of St. Luke’s Hospital of Kansas City. She will be attending medical school at the University of Missouri this coming year.
