  • Fraire Begins Duties as Associate Vice President for Enrollment Management

Johnfrairepic.jpg John Fraire, Truman’s new associate vice president for enrollment management, began his duties July 18.
“John brings considerable depth of experience to Truman,” Truman State University President Barbara Dixon said. “He has an impressive record of success in enrollment management at three different universities, and I am confident he will provide outstanding leadership for us in this area.”
“It is both exciting and humbling to have been offered this opportunity,” Fraire said. “I was attracted to this position because Truman is a nationally recognized academic institution with a strong liberal arts tradition. As an enrollment manager, it is important for me to work at a university that is academically driven and understands enrollment as an academic concern. I have been very impressed with everyone I met, especially the financial aid and admissions offices, and I look forward to working with President Dixon, the faculty, students and staff of Truman.”
Fraire has just completed a six-month research project as the executive director of the New Latino Visions (NLV) Theatre Company in Kalamazoo, Mich.
He previously served as dean of admissions for Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Mich., where he increased freshman enrollment by 35 percent over four years, established a minority student initiative recruitment program and increased minority admits by 28 percent.
Fraire also served as the director of admission at Brooklyn College/City University of New York in New York, N.Y., where he instituted a plan that increased enrollment three consecutive years. He also served as director of undergraduate admissions at Pace University in New York, N.Y. Fraire began his work in admissions at Harvard University where he served as a senior admissions officer.
Fraire received his B.A. degree in government from Harvard University in Cambridge, Mass., and his M.A. in administrative planning and social policy from Harvard as well. He is currently completing his Ph.D. program in history at Western Michigan University.
In addition to Fraire’s extensive admissions background he is a published playwright and has been involved in professional theatre for over a decade. He currently serves as an evaluator supervisor for the Gates Millennium Scholarship Program in San Francisco, Calif.
