This year’s Taiwan at Truman program is hosting 24 high school men from Zen Del High School in Taiwan. The program will be hosting a picnic and social event July 20 at Thousand Hills State Park, Shelter No. 3. Faculty, staff and friends of Truman, along with their families (especially children!) are invited to join the visiting students for a barbeque and various traditional picnic games. Festivities will begin at approximately 5 p.m. with food, and conclude by no later than 8 p.m., weather permitting.

The primary objective of the evening is to provide visiting students with an opportunity to interact with American families in lieu of a formal homestay setting. Individuals or families interested in participating should RSVP to Kevin Minch at kminch@truman.edu prior to July 18, with an approximate number attending.

The members of the Assistant Dean for Multicultural Affairs/Director of the Multicultural Affairs Center search committee are bringing two finalists to campus. Each candidate will conduct a presentation during an open campus forum. Candidate materials and review documents will be available at the presentation. The campus community is encouraged to attend the open forums.

New parking decals are now available for students, faculty and staff. Registration can be completed via TruView. Faculty and staff decals will be valid for 2014-2016, while student decals will be valid for the 2014-2015 academic year.  

From the TruView home page, go to the lower right hand channel labeled “Update and View My Personal Information.” Verify your local address and update your telephone numbers and permanent address. Select “Register My Vehicle” and complete the required fields-specifically your vehicle description and license plate number. Do not put spaces in the license plate field.  

Faculty and staff can choose to pick up the decal at the Public Safety Office, General Services Building 100, or have the decal mailed to their campus office. Additional questions can be directed to Carolyn Cox at 660.785.7400 during Parking Services hours, 8 a.m.-2:30 p.m., Monday-Friday. Parking decals may be picked up during Parking Services hours only.

Freshman parking permits will be included in the Residence Hall check-in packet if the registration is completed prior to Aug. 1. Late registrations, commuter parking permits and upperclassmen parking permits will be processed and distributed from the Parking Services Office, General Services Building 100, located in the Department of Public Safety at the corner of Franklin and Patterson streets.

The Parking Services Office will be open on Freshman Move-In day, Aug. 16, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be expanded Parking Services Office hours Monday-Thursday, Aug. 18-21, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

A 10- to 12-hour power outage will be necessary Aug. 2 when Ameren Missouri reroutes the back-up power feed to most of the Truman campus.

While this is an inconvenience, Ameren engineers say the work is critical to avoid future power outages on campus. When a fire occurred at the Randolph Street substation last March, Ameren Missouri discovered the back-up power feed to most of the Truman campus was not effective. Before Ameren can replace the fire-damaged switching equipment at the substation, they must first re-route the back-up power feed.

The following buildings will be affected: Adair House; McClain Hall; Baldwin Hall; McKinney Center; Blanton-Nason-Brewer; Missouri Hall; Boiler Plant; Patterson House; Bulldog Kennels; Pershing/Health Sciences Building; Dobson Hall; Pickler Memorial Library; Fair Apartments; Ryle Hall; Grim Hall; Stokes Stadium; Kirk Building; Violette Hall; and Kirk Memorial.
 
Buildings not affected include: Barnett Hall; Campbell Apartments; Centennial Hall; General Services Building; Magruder Hall; Ophelia Parrish; Randolph Apartments; Ruth W. Towne Museum and Visitors Center; Student Recreation Center; Student Union Building; and West Campus Suites.

During this power outage the impacted buildings will be closed, as there will be no air conditioning, fire alarms or elevator service. Because ITS is in McClain Hall, the campus computer network will also be down.

Truman State University is pleased to announce a new exchange program at Glasgow Caledonian University in Scotland. Students pay Truman tuition and room and board fees in Scotland and can complete 12-16 hours of credit. Glasgow Caledonian University is one of the largest universities in Scotland and its campus is situated right in the heart of the lively city of Glasgow. Courses are offered in a variety of disciplines including biology, criminology, risk management, fashion marketing and retailing, interior design, economics, financial management, management, social sciences, law, media and communications, journalism, computer engineering, forensic science, psychology, social work and language courses. All courses are taught in English.

Applications are due Sept. 1.

The Department of Pubic Safety will conduct training for emergency response to an active shooter July 23-24 in Centennial Hall. Only people participating in the exercise will be allowed in the training area during the exercise. There will be numerous emergency vehicles and emergency personnel participating in the exercise so traffic on Randolph Drive and the parking lots south and west of Centennial Hall may be restricted at times.
