Truman had 11 teams recognized as recipients of the 2018-19 GEICO
Team Academic All-GLVC Award.
The Great Lakes Valley Conference recognizes each team from member institutions that have maintained a 3.30 grade point average for the academic year. In total, the conference honored 152 men’s and women’s teams, surpassing the previous GLVC record of 149 set last year.
For Truman, the All-Academic teams included: women’s tennis (3.68), women’s basketball (3.62), women’s track and field (3.60), women’s cross country (3.55), women’s swimming (3.49), volleyball (3.43), softball (3.42), women’s soccer (3.41), men’s soccer (3.40), men’s tennis (3.37) and men’s cross country (3.34).
Individually, a total of 210 Truman student-athletes received GEICO
Academic All-GLVC honors, bestowed upon those who meet a cumulative GPA of 3.30 during two semesters of an academic year at the institution. The breakdown by sport is: football (32), women’s track and field (23), women’s soccer (18), men’s soccer (17), men’s track and field (16), women’s swimming (16), softball (14), women’s cross country (11), baseball (10), women’s basketball (10), volleyball (9), men’s basketball (6), men’s tennis (6), women’s tennis (6), men’s cross country (5), men’s swimming (5), women’s golf (5) and wrestling (1).
Forty-four Truman student-athletes received the GLVC’s
James Gaffney FSC Distinguished Scholar Award for earning a 4.0 grade point average during the course of the academic year.
Additionally, 31 Bulldogs were honored with the
Council of Presidents’ Academic Excellence Award bestowed upon student-athletes that have exhausted their eligibility in the intercollegiate sport in which they participated and maintained at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA through their academic year. Elijah Farrales (track and field), Michael Grasing (cross country/track and field), Mitch Nichols (football) and Michaela Mooney (softball) represented four of the 13 students across the conference that met the highest standard of academic excellence by concluding their collegiate careers with an unblemished 4.0 cumulative GPA.
For the third year in a row, a Truman student-athlete was named a GLVC Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Laura Ney was recognized for women’s soccer.
The league selects one student-athlete in each conference sport to be designated the GLVC Scholar-Athlete of the Year. The award is based upon athletic accomplishments, both team and individual, and academic performance in the season upon which the award is based. Each GLVC member has the opportunity to nominate one individual from its team for the award. Nominees must have a cumulative grade point average that meets Academic All-America standards (3.30), and freshmen and first-year transfers are not eligible for the award. The voting is completed by each member institution’s faculty athletics representative.
Truman has released the names of students who graduated during spring commencement.
