Health Department Hosts Flu Shot Clinic

The Adair County Health Department has scheduled a walk-in clinic for residents to get their seasonal flu vaccine. The clinic will be from 2-4 p.m. Oct. 18 at the Health Department Clinic located at 1001 South Jamison in Kirksville.

The annual flu vaccine is recommended for those ages three and older. The Health Department also has a limited supply of the high-dose flu vaccine, which is recommended for adults ages 65 and older. Both will be administered as long as supplies last. Wearing short-sleeved or loose-fitting shirts will make administration of the vaccine easier.

Vaccines will be administered at no cost to Adair County residents, although those with Medicare and Medicaid coverage should bring their cards to the clinic. No pre-registration is required, however, each resident receiving a vaccine will need to complete a Flu Assessment Screening and Consent Form. Forms will be available at the clinic or can be printed and completed prior to coming to the clinic. Visit the Health Department website or use the new Adair County Health Department mobile app and click on “Forms” to access the flu consent.

The seasonal flu vaccine does not contain a live virus. Therefore, recipients cannot get the flu from the vaccine. It can protect from getting the flu and reduce the severity of symptoms if infected.
