Alumna Amber Smith will be the next guest in the TRU-Entrepreneur Series with a presentation at 1:30 p.m. Nov. 11 in the Pickler Memorial Library Villhard Innovation Lab.

Smith is an influencer, reseller and entrepreneur based in Des Moines, Iowa. She creates content about thrifting, reselling, money, travel and life as a self-employed entrepreneur.

A double-major at Truman, Smith graduated in 2019 with degrees in business administration and economics. During her time at the University, she was actively involved on campus as a member of Delta Sigma Pi, the Community of Collegiate Entrepreneurs, Alpha Gamma Delta and the Pershing Society, all while working as a student ambassador. She also spent two semesters studying abroad, traveling to Gold Coast, Australia, and Bangkok, Thailand.

After graduation, Smith earned her MBA from Drake University in 2021 and went on to work in consulting, including roles supporting government and Fortune 500 clients, as well as at two startups. In early 2024, she took her side hustles of reselling and content creation full-time, making the leap into self-employment.

Today, Smith is a social media all-star, with nearly 130,000 followers and tens of millions of views across four popular platforms. She sells secondhand clothing on various online stores, including Poshmark and eBay, while creating content about thrifting, reselling, personal finance and entrepreneurship.

Following her success, Smith has spoken at PoshFest and eBay Open about social media, community-building and growing a business through content. Her hard work has earned her features in Forbes Magazine, the Wall Street Journal, Business Insider and more. She has partnered with multiple large-name brands for various social media collaborations, including Facebook, eBay, Depop, Casey’s and HealthCare.gov.

In addition to presenting as part of the TRU-Entrepreneur Speaker Series, Smith will also serve as a judge for the live pitch competition portion of the Bulldog B.I.T.E. contest, Nov. 12.
