Missouri Native to be Featured in Art Gallery Display

An opening reception for “Afterglow” will take place from 5-6 p.m. Oct. 26 in the University Art Gallery.
“Afterglow” features works by Sarah Williams, a painter whose intimate, carefully rendered paintings explore small-town life, vernacular architecture and the environments surrounding familiar structures. Raised in Brookfield, Missouri, Williams draws on her Midwestern roots to depict subjects such as gas stations, bungalows and everyday American landscapes. Through her sensitive handling of light and mood, ordinary places become compelling and evocative scenes.
Williams earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts from William Woods University and her Master of Fine Arts in drawing and painting from the University of North Texas. She is currently a professor of painting at Missouri State University. Her work has been exhibited throughout the United States and is held in numerous institutional collections.
