This program gives attendees the opportunity to learn new outdoor skills through active participation. WIN events are being held in four state parks in 2026. Each event covers a different combination of skills and activities and includes classes taught by women intended to provide the opportunity to learn by doing. All individuals are welcome. Registration is required for these events, and there is a fee for each program. On the website, find the listing for the type of WIN event desired and click on the green box below the listing. Then, click on the green "Sign up!" button to register. Registration open and close dates are listed on the registration website. All slots will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
Barn Quilt Workshop

Celebrate our country's 250th birthday by creating a barn quilt. Jennifer and Drew Wilkerson with Bohemian Folk Barn Quilts from Brookfield will host a workshop at the arts center. While many of the designs are shown in red, white and blue, Jennifer and Drew will be offering 72 other colors attendees can choose from to make their barn quilt.To register, call 660.665.0500 or email kirksvilleart@gmail.com. Attendees will need to select their design when registering, but they can wait and select their color choices the day of the workshop. Attendees will need to bring a hair dryer. Light refreshments will be available. Spaces are limited.

Join Bob Johnson, Department of Agricultural and Biological Sciences, for a fungus filled day at the park. This foray will focus on exploring the diversity of fungi that exists in the park. Attendees will collect specimens and then examine and talk about what they found. Wear appropriate attire for walking in the woods and bring a basket for collecting. Meet at the parking lot, next to the playground, across from the Redbud Trailhead. Questions should be directed to the park office at 660.665.6995.

16th Annual FLATS Trail Half Marathon

FLATS Trail Half Marathon takes racers over hills, rocks, roots, stretches of fast singletrack and water crossings. Along with mile after mile of trails, the point-to-point course offers runners seven aid stations, gorgeous views, volunteers to cheer them on, a marked course, age-group awards, prize money, a soft t-shirt, custom finishers medals and a festive post-race celebration. All proceeds go to the Forest Lake Area Trail System to support trail building and maintenance in Adair County, Missouri. Registration is available here.
